Αφιέρωμα Σέριφος (Serifos Island videos)

The  Serifos  is the Aegean Sea island belonging to  Cyclades . The capital is Chora (or Serifos), which is built at an altitude of 200 m. The port is the Meadow, while other large villages are  Koutalas , the  Grand Meadow  and  Kentarhos

. The surface of Serifos estimated at 73.2 square kilometers. and has a coastline of 83 km. The 2001 census had a population of 1,414 people. The island flourished in the late 19th – early 20th century, when they settled mining companies exploiting the rich subsoil. But later the mines were abandoned because the mining was unprofitable, and many villages were deserted.

Since ancient times known as a barren island. The highest peak is Tourlos and has 585 m. Altitude. The subsoil has deposits of hematite (Fe2O3) and magnetite (Fe3O4) formed by contact metamorphism within the limits of a granitic intrusion and skarn type deposits rich in various minerals. The 2004 built dam capacity of 700,000 m3 in Strait location near Meadow for water supply and irrigation of the island. Famous beaches Livadakia, Kalo Vineyard, Ganema and Vaya in the south, Malliadiko, Grand Meadow and Avessalos west, Sykamia, Platis Gialos both Gialoudia north and fine sand the Ag.Sostis , St. John and Lia east. The island has three main paved roads. The first leads from Livadi to Chora. After the town the road forks. A road covering the northern and eastern part of the island (northern region) and the other the south (southern district). Both branches return circularly from the south in the Meadow. Near Serifos are the islets Serifopoula North and Vous east.

Local food is considered the chickpea soup , which is chickpeas in the oven with rosemary.
